Statement :
In Europe, after the American colonization, since Louis XIV, the kings started to collect the exotic plants brought by the explorers. In the 19 century, some greenhouses (Like the serres tropicales of le jardin des plantes in Paris) were opened to the public, to show what is a rainforest.
But these artificial rainforests are done like traditional occidental gardens and are not looking like the real ones.... Today Many people are thinking that a rainforest is like that in western countries.
But under the tropic, they are different, natural and often polluted or cultivated to keep this kind of images.
This series is questioning the tropical in our modernity. They were produced at Hong Kong island and at Hong Kong archipelago.
Hong Kong is unique on the point that there is no transition in between urbanity and nature.
